Bachelor of Science in Biology

Overview of Courses

In your first two years, you’ll take the six core biology courses. These classes include labs in addition to lectures so that as you learn the fundamental concepts of the biological sciences, you’ll also get some hands-on field experiences.

Biological Sciences Concentrations

Students pursuing an undergraduate degree in Biological Sciences may choose from several different concentrations, as well as honors versions of these concentrations offered in partnership with the University Honors Program.

    The Bachelor of Science, Biological Sciences major is a 120 semester credit hour academic program. Students will complete Loyola Core requirements, major requirements, adjunct courses in related sciences, and general electives. Completion of this academic program requires a 2.0 GPA in the major curriculum and a 2.0 GPA in the Loyola cumulative curriculum. All major courses must be completed in the Biological Sciences department unless an exception is allowed by the department chair.

    The Bachelor of Science, Biological Sciences major with a concentration in Cell & Molecular Biology is a 120 semester credit hour academic program. Students will complete Loyola Core requirements, major requirements, adjunct courses in related sciences, and general electives. Completion of this academic program requires a 2.0 GPA in the major curriculum and a 2.0 GPA in the Loyola cumulative curriculum. All major courses must be completed in the Biological Sciences department unless an exception is allowed by the department chair.

    The Teacher Education track program is available to students in the Biological Science major. Students selecting the Teacher Education track will complete their program curriculum with itemized changes that include a specific Social Sciences requirement in the Loyola Core, a modified set of Advanced Biology Electives, and a set of approved Teacher Education courses completed within the General Electives area.
