Bachelor of Science in Computer Information Systems

Overview of Courses

In addition to completing an internship for practical experience, our program’s curriculum links core courses from computer science and management science for a solid foundation in information systems. Here’s a sample of what you can expect to learn and do:

  • Information Systems Theory & Practice – This course provides an understanding of information systems and outlines the concepts of how I.S. can provide a competitive advantage. Different systems are presented. Design and implementation are discussed. Effect on business and society is studied.
  • Introduction to Programming I – This course is an introduction to concepts and terminology in computer programming, including interface builders and problem-solving techniques in various programming environments. Emphasis is placed on the basics of software design and on elementary applications to mathematics and other disciplines.
  • Introduction to Relational Databases – This course introduces the concepts and terminology of databases. The concepts discussed during the lectures are illustrated by a number of hands-on exercises based on the Access 2000 database software.
  • Computer Organization – This course introduces the topics of digital logic, digital systems, machine-level representation of data, assembly-level machine organization, memory system organization, I/O, and communication.
