Bachelor of Science in Psychological Sciences

Psychological Sciences is one of our largest degree programs at Loyola for a reason—it is a great foundation for forging your own career path.

Collaborations between faculty and students produce award winning research projects and prepare students for their future careers. About one-third of our students continue to a graduate degree program in some area of psychology (clinical, counseling, industrial, experimental, or some other area). Another third of them seek an advanced graduate or professional degree in a related area (law, social work, business, medicine, dentistry, or other fields). Whatever your career goals in psychology, our program can prepare you for them.

Overview of Courses

The versatility of our program allows you to truly tailor the curriculum to your interests and professional goals. Here’s a sample of what you can expect to learn and do:

  • Cognitive Neuroscience – The purpose of this course is to familiarize the student with the cognitive processes underlying human behavior, their experimental origins, and their theoretical significance.
  • Developmental Psychology – This course covers the development of behavior and psychological activity through the prenatal period, infancy, childhood, adolescence, maturity, and old age with emphasis on the normal person.
  • Abnormal Psychology –This course is a survey of psychological disorders with emphasis on clinical “picture,” explanatory theories, and etiological research. Intervention procedures are briefly addressed.
  • Social Psychology – Social determinants of individual behavior and of group interaction are examined with an emphasis on current research literature.
  • Behavioral Neuroscience – This course is an investigation of the biological basis of behavior. The focus is on neural and hormonal regulation and control of behavior.
